Horse Meat-My New Opinion

I have recently learned that, in the Bible, God told Moses and Aaron which animals were clean and unclean. He told them, Leviticus 11:2-3: "Tell the Israelites:' Of all the animals that live on land these are the ones you may eat: You may eat any animal that has a split hoof completely divided and that chews its cud."
He also says that animals that only chew their cud or only have a split hoof, you shouldn't eat. So examples of unclean animals are animals such as, pigs, rats, dogs, bats, rabbits, and, of course, horses. So, now that I know, I now believe that eating horses is not okay, because if God says something, you listen.

PS: Some clean animals are goats, sheep, deer and cattle.
PPS: For more info on this subject read Leviticus 11 in a Bible. If you don't have one, you can probably get one out of the library.

Global Warming and Agriculture

Global warming and agriculture affect each other. On the one hand global warming increases CO2 in the air and nitrogen in the soil, increasing fertility. It also lengthens the growing season and allows us to plant crops up here that we haven't been able to grow before. It also could increase drought or rain, which would either kill the plants from lack of water, or from drowning. On the other hand, farming is one of the biggest CO2 and methane increasers. Agriculture produces 54% of methane emissions, 80% of nitrous oxide emissions, and almost all carbon dioxide emissions!
Deforestation for farmland also leaves more CO2 in the air than before, because you're taking down trees that filter out the CO2, and unless you use a handsaw or axe, the chainsaw or machine you use emits CO2. My opinion is that we farmers of the next generation should go back to some of the old ways to slow down global warming!

Eating Horse Meat

I believe that eating horse meat is okay. Don't get me wrong, I love horses, I have one named Ruby. The main few cultures who eat horse meat are France, Japan and Belgium. Canada is a cultural mosaic and has many people from these countries, who want horsemeat. Some people are extremely against eating horse, but it makes sense, because our culture has used these animals mainly as pets for so long. But there are 490 000 horses in Canada! I believe that as long as they are cared for properly and killed quickly and humanely, it should be okay. As long as it's done properly, it's okay.

Horse meat is very nutritious. It has less fat and calories and more calcium than beef, even lean beef. For more on the nutrition of horsemeat go to www.pferd-und-fleisch.de/Horsemeat/index.htm

The Impacts of Drilling for Petroleum on the Environment

The impacts of drilling for petroleum on the environment can be both good and bad. When companies drill for oil, whether on land or underwater, it damages the environment in some way. On land, the damage is caused by large machinery used for digging or bulldozing the earth, or taking down trees. Acres of trees were cut down around my house to make way for pipelines, and valuable farmland was destroyed. Actual oil spills cause problems, but are more easily contained on land, but in water, can be devestating. Oil in the water coats beaches, makes it dangerous to swim and kills birds, seals, fish and whales. But oil does have it's advantages. Researcher James S. Robbins has argued that the development of kerosene oil has saved some species of whales from extinction, because people could burn kerosene instead of whale blubber.
